Modern Apprenticeships and New Deal placements at Penwith District Council

Penwith District Council works closely with Ultra and Jobcentre Plus to offer opportunities of work experience and trainee positions.

Ultra

Ultra offers Modern Apprenticeships, consisting of work experience and an NVQ qualification in Administration and ICT. Trainees work within a department, on general administration duties, and also attend half a day at the Ultra office to complete a portfolio towards the qualification.

Jobcentre Plus

Jobcentre Plus delivers a scheme 'Public Sector Routeway to Work'. The scheme supports people who are disadvantaged in the labour market to gain employment and/or work experience within the public sector. Jobcentre Plus deliver the scheme working in partnership with Cornwall County Council and public sector organisations.

During the period leading up to the implementation of a new Unitary Council in Cornwall, the Cornish Local Authorities have agreed to adopt a common approach to the advertising of it's vacancies. The intention is that vacancies which have the potential to be filled by people already working within one of the seven local Councils should be advertised first across all seven Council's prior to external advertisement.
