This summer young people from Cornwall have been making short films about their culture with professional filmmakers – projects which will be screened at a special event at the Mouth Hawke SK8 Park near Truro at 7pm on 7 September 2004.
‘Vote SK8’ is a film about a prime minister who awakes from a 40 year coma and realises he has to get to grips with what is happening with young people today. Played by official Tony Blair look-alike John Brolly, the PM quickly identifies the significance of Skate Culture and literally ‘gets up to speed’! ‘Vote Sk8’ was made by students from Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Penair and Mullion schools. ‘Chunder’, made by students at Cape Cornwall School depicts what a group of teenage lads get up to on an average Friday even in St Just, and ‘A ByteSize Film’ (by students from Sir James Smith’s Community School) is a project about youth orientated sporting culture and is set against the dramatic backdrop of the landscapes of North Cornwall.
All ByteSize films are made for the It’s a Culture Thing initiative by Culture South West, and managed by South West Screen through the Cornwall Moving Image Education Hub group. To book your place contact: cassiel.dennis@keap.org.uk
