Hundreds of UK firms have fallen prey to cold calls requesting payment to place advertisements in charity publications; many firms see this as a good marketing opportunity, but in reality few of the advertisements are actually printed. The DTI has developed a series of scam-busting tips, as well as advice about how to check whether a charity is genuine.
