Workhousedesign, a team of architects from Truro have beaten rivals from across Europe to win the design contract for the Redruth Grammar School creative industry development.
DPN members Perfect Moment are the appointed lead consultants for the project. The vision is to develop a flagship cluster of creative industries businesses and support agencies. The redeveloped building will house studios and workshops for creative businesses and artists, a gallery, a cafe-bar, meeting spaces and offices.
The project is being led by to raise the profile of Cornwall's creative industries and give them a business advantage in national and international markets. Workhousedesign has been selected by ACT to redesign the old school.
Space at the former school has already been let out to people working in the creative industries since 2005 and there are about 80 people working there. Eventually around 175 artists will be based at the new centre. Work will begin in early 2009.
