Member news: DPN member Shaun Plumb: IT expert launches new software to simplify web developmentPenwith based IT specialist Shaun Plumb, who has worked for Microsoft, has launched his own software which he believes will simplify web development. Shaun Plumb, who runs coderscollective.pz from Madron, has created Simple Content with the intent of providing clients with a cost effective solution to updating their own websites. After spending two years developing and testing the system, he’s now ready to begin rolling it out to Cornish design agencies.“Over the last few years I’ve worked with many web designers and companies who seem to have one similar issue,” said Shaun, “And that’s trying to provide their clients with a cost effective solution to update their own website. This can range from changing text or adding in new pages or image galleries. In order to allow customers to make their own changes it normally means that a bespoke solution has had to be put in place, but this can be expensive.” Shaun, who has previously worked as a programmer for United Distilleries, Department of Health and Microsoft, believes his Simple Content system will offer three key benefits. “Firstly, it is simple but not simplified,” said Shaun. “Secondly its flexible, so rather than trying to fit the need to the software, the software will fit the need. “And finally it is extensible. It can be taken in as many different ways as possible.” Using Shaun’s system clients log into an administration panel within the website where they can make live alterations through an interface. Simple Content then allows users to make a variety of changes including the addition of a membership system that allows members to update their own pages, which Shaun thinks will be useful for clubs and associations. It can also control product catalogues, newsletter and blogs, whilst it has the ability to change a websites language based on the browser’s location.
