DPN and Cornwall Film host ‘Digital Markets’ Show case Event and Seminars

Come along to the event on the 7th June, Knowledge Spa, Truro to see the case studies of projects delivered by local suppliers for the Digital Markets funding scheme. The event has seminars on User interaction, Branding, Search Engine Optimisation and Digital Marketing with the opportunity to network over a buffet lunch.

Business owner / staff member required to talk to students about running an e-commerce website.

Penwith College are currently running a business course with an e-commerce element for 14-16 olds at a local school. DPN has been asked to help find a suitable business to give a short talk to the students.

Penwith Partnership: Arts Directory for pupils and staff in Penwith Schools

Penwith Partnership have recently secured funding from the Learning and Skills Network to produce a published Arts Directory for use in Penwith Schools. The Arts Directory will provide a resource for both pupils and school staff to access work experience placements, lecturers, workshop leaders, performers, project deliverers and coordinators in all forms of art, media and culture. This directory will provide a platform for schools and local artists/companies to build solid working partnerships with local schools, complementing existing directories to develop further creative projects in Penwith. It is hoped that a number of companies, groups and organisations will be interested in working with Mounts Bay School to access further funding to deliver arts based projects in Penwith Schools.

South West Screen Digital Shorts Roadshows

Digital Shorts 2007/08 will be open for applications in September 2007. South West Screen and the UK Film Council are seeking to commission innovative short film ideas from individuals based in the South West who are interested in exploring new approaches to digital format, both in terms of production and exhibition/distribution. These roadshows will provide the opportunity to hear about the scheme, talk with the commissioners and see films which have been supported under the scheme over the last four years.

Linux on the desktop reaches mainstream consumer status Dell has signed an agreement with Canonical to offer the Ubuntu Linux distribution on selected consumer desktop and notebook computers. The agreement marks the first time that a major PC maker will start shipping mainstream consumer PCs with the open source operating system. Some computer makers have also been offering computers without a pre-installed operating system, allowing users to install their own software.

The workshops are aimed at helping small business owners to step back from daily operations and make long term strategic plans.
